  Understood, but even in a large company the machine may get moved into different roles where security like this isn't an issue. In my work I have fairly complex channel and triggering setups using CAN and other protocols. Every time I turn the machine off I have to start from scratch - every single setting is lost.

I'm thinking that if I can get all of the license keys from the previous owner there could be a way to wipe all of the licenses and then reinstall everything but SEC.

  Wiping the scope and starting from scratch, might work, but I doubt it. The SEC option is designed to make it hard to do that. That's specifically because there might, maybe, be some leftover data, and we want to guard against that.

I think your only choices are to live with what you have, or buy another scope.

  Yes, but that's not the way the security people think. From their point of view, there's always that possibility.

The point is that the SEC option is here for a reason. It can't be removed. If it is possible to clear the scope back to pre-SEC status, then there's a good chance that the other existing licenses won't be available either.
